Successful Kids Series assists parents through the teaching tool of the musical CD that introduces essential character qualities needed throughout life, and trains the child in communication skills through song. Each song contains an important esteem-building message and becomes a Unit of Study. You will have the support of your child's classroom teacher who will be playing the CD in the classroom on a daily basis. Your child's learning process will be maximized as you and your child listen to the CD in the home. You will notice the benefits over a period of time. You will also see how quickly he/she will learn the songs and begin to assimilate and incorporate the information into his/her life, and have fun along the way. Each lesson includes affirmations, which are spoken to the child on a daily basis. There are also reflective questions, which do not require a response from your child. The list of questions and affirmations will be sent home through your child's school. Affirmation example: People Need One Another Question example: How do I feel after I've shared my feelings with a kind person? That 1-minute daily activity has the potential to enrich you and your child's communication and successfully build your child's storehouse of knowledge
Openness: The Heart Sharing Process Do you remember a time from your childhood when a kind adult lovingly shared a vignette from his/her childhood? Perhaps it was a parent or grandparent. That moment in time may still be tucked away in your memory. Children feel very special when people they trust express their feelings openly and honestly. Honest sharing on the part of an adult lets children know they are not alone, that others have experienced similar feeling's and offers a model for a child to also be open with his/her feelings. Successful Kids Series provides lessons and opportunities for you and your child to talk about the experiences and the feelings associated with them. In the lesson sample below is an illustration of the "Heart-Sharing" process. The lesson is based on the song "You Listen With Your Heart".
Parents will share their own personal stories as I have in the following: Example: When I was in the fifth grade, my best friend and her family were in a serious automobile accident. One of the members of her family was fatally injured and my friend was in the hospital. I remember sitting at my desk at school, trying to hold back my tears and terrified I would never see my friend again. My teacher, understanding the situation, quietly slipped out of the room with me, comforting me and reassuring me that my friend would make a full recovery – which she did. I will always remember the feeling of being loved and listened to during a sad time. Again, the "Heart Sharing" is an opportunity for you as a respected adult in your child's life to speak honestly about difficult as well as joyful experiences that are part of life. |
